The Facebook app for the Palm Pre is here. It is an official app, but it remains a little barebones for now, but updates are in the works and should roll out steadily. The app features the live main feed, but seems to ignore any filters you might have applied – so you’ll still receive updates from feeds you’ve categorically excluded. Everything else works very well, and fits nicely into the WebOS interface. You can view and share photographs and updates, and like or unlike status updates from your friends.

Links open in new Browser card views, and YouTube videos will automatically launch the corresponding WebOS app. You can manually refresh the feeds. Thankfully the app is pretty light on battery usage, hopefully additional updates will still maintain this excellent feature. Right now, you can follow your friends’ updates, send out your own, and share photos. Joining and creating groups, chat, and other features are yet to be seen. It’s a functional and well-designed start.

Goodfood Application

Are you looking for an application to help you handle your uncontrollable munchies? Or maybe something to help you find a place where you can take your chums to brunch? Either of these can be solved with ease thans to the Palm Pres Goodfood Application. Whatever your taste is, the Goodfood application assists you in locating the closesnt food spots and is also linked to a social networking site that allows you to view ratings, pricing, and locations.

When you first open the application it will reveal to you the closest spots to eat according to your location. From there you can narrow the results based on distance, ratings, and price. My favorite part is that if someone else has eaten there before you and took pictures of their meal - you can actually view it within the application. So if the portions seem skimpy and overpriced you can avoid that eatery. Also within the application is the ability to leave comments and reviews for restaurants that you visit.

Flixster Application For Palm Pre

If you saw the video of the Fandango application - Flixster is supposed to complement that application. What the Flixter application does is add a user community to movie information. Now you can view comments, ratings, reviews and more from the application. It’s almost exactly the same as Fandango but it has this useful social networking component which can make it a little more useful. You can also purchase tickets in the Flixster Application.

Included within the application is the ability to view full trailers on either WiFi or a data connection. Both run the trailer at good speeds. Similar to the Fandango application when you purchase a ticket - it will automatically be added to your calendar so you don’t forget. If you think about it the Flixster application for the Palm Pre offers more than Fandango does. Uh oh!

Accuweather Application for Palm Pre

The best Palm Pre Weather application is definitely Accuweather. Satellite and radar imagery are some of the advanced tools but I think I’ll stick to the basic weather forecast. Similar to other weather applications the default screen is the 5 day weather forcast which shows all the technicalities like dew point, and humidity, wind, sunrise/set. One tap on the bottom menu bar will reveal your hourly forecast.

This is one of my favorite things about Accuweather. It understands that we’re human so it has this setting called “RealFeel” which takes account the technicalities mentioned above and will show you the temperature of how it really feels outside. This application is great if you travel a lot and to be honest, I have yet to see a weather application as sophisticated as this one.

Palm Pre Twitter Application - Tweed

Tweed is a Palm Pre Application for Twitter. It’s simple to Tweet with it some I’m not going to talk about that. But you can easily switch between fonts and font sizes, browse through the hottest twitter trends and search Twitter easily. You also have the power to choose what tweets to look out by filtering Tweets to only look at your replies and direct messages.

Tweed notifies you by popping up at the bottom of the screen. It’s simple to use Tweed and this is cool. If you’re borderline about Twitter still, you can download Tweed from the App catalog and actually just browse through and search Twitter without having your own Twitter account. It’s a great Palm Pre Application and I highly recommend it.

Launcher aka Universal Search

One reason I’m falling in love more than ever with the Palm Pre is the easy usability of the phone. Built into the Palm Pre is a launcher or universal search application. Pretty much, just start typing form your homes screen and just like a Google Search results of applications or functions within your phone begin to pop-up right before your eyes.

The beauty of the Palm Pre Launcher application is the ease it searches through your entire phone. It goes through the setting, contacts, applications, and through every nook and cranny of your Pre. If for some reason you do not actually find what you’re looking for the Pre will prompt you on whether or not you would like to search using Wikipedia, Google, or even Googles popular map application. Pretty much with the way things are with this phone, 2 steps and your there. Only a few more days till I have a Palm Pre in my own hands.
