The Palm Pre comes with a video player which will play MPEG-4, H.263 and H.264 and probably a few others. It works well but there isn’t too much special about it. Tap the screen to reveal a video scrubber and if your video has those black bars on the bottom or top, zoom in and out with ease.

As for Youtube on the Palm Pre - it’s great. It’s easy to search and browse for videos on Youtube. Since the Pre’s screen is of suc high quality - the high quality youtube videos actually look better on the Pre than the do on the iPhone. Once I have this phone in my hands we’ll see who the true champ is.

Photos Application

Managing photos on the Palm Pre is as simple as you thought it would be. You can create albums hich certain photographs and similar to the iPhone the initial view is a grid containing thumbnails. Sliding your finger up and down will let you scroll, tapping a thumbnail will enlarge and open up the image, sliding you finger across the screen will let you continue looking through pictures.

Unfortunately - the max amount of memory is 8GB since the phone doe not provide you with the luxuries of a memory expansion slot. Pictures you take with your phone will automatically be inserted into the photos application, and can be dragged easily onto your computer via USB.

Pre Music Application

Amazon MP3 for the Palm Pre

If you have an Android phone then you’re probably familiar with the Amazon MP3 application. Pretty much it allows you to buy mp3’s via your Amazon account. If you already have a payment method set up in your Amazon account the process is a lot quicker, if you don’t it will take you to the Web Browser application and open up Amazon - and then you’d pay from there.

Unlike Pandora on the iPhone - you don’t actually have to have the application running in the foreground to listen to music. Unfortunately, even if you do buy the music, you can’t save it to your phone you always have to stream it. A great thing is that the quality of the mp3’s streaming from the Amazon MP3 application 3G connection is just the same as the quality with WiFi.
